Three minutes' walk from Whitechapel Underground — ten from Brick Lane, twenty from the Tower.
The Whitechapel stands on the corner of New Road, at the point where the City stops and Whitechapel proper begins. Behind the glass front there is a desk staffed twenty-four hours and a lift to every floor.
The rooms are plainly done and warm with it: white walls, a wall of walnut behind the bed, black upholstered headboards, and the hotel's red on the throws and the cushions. Every one is air-conditioned and has its own shower room, a flat-screen television and a tray with a kettle on it.
Downstairs, Sahara Grill serves lunch and dinner — halal, and open to the street as well as to the house.
